INSPECT THE WORKBOOK'S FICTIONAL EXAMPLE

Follow the records behind the result.

Four items, four sales and two refund records. These are the same teaching inputs included in the paid workbook. Read the arithmetic here or download the static CSV records without buying.

Cash after purchases
$49
Stock still on hand, at cost
$10
Realized contribution
$59

$49 cash + $10 unsold stock − $59 contribution = $0 reconciliation difference.

The camera sells, returns and sells again.

SKU R002 stays with the same camera. The first sale S002 receives $100. After $15 fees, $8 postage and $2 packaging, sale cash is $75.

Return RT001 pays a $100 refund and $6 return shipping, with $12 fees credited: a −$94 cash adjustment. Restocking restores the camera's $30 cost basis. First-sale contribution is −$19.

The later sale S003 receives $90. After $12 fees, $8 postage and $2 packaging, sale cash is $68. Subtracting its $30 basis gives $38 contribution. Across both sales: −$19 + $38 = $19.

An unsold item stays in stock.

The $10 book, R003, has no sale record and remains on hand. Its purchase reduces cash, while its $10 cost remains stock. It is not deducted from realized contribution as a sold item.

A partial refund does not restore stock.

The zero-cost mug, R004, leaves $15 sale cash. The buyer keeps it after a $5 partial refund, leaving $10 contribution and no restocked item.

Sale cash $211, less $99 return adjustments and $63 acquisition/preparation costs, leaves $49 cash. The $10 unsold book brings the reconciliation to $59 contribution.

Static reference records only. These CSVs have no formulas, validation, linked calculations or operational template. The paid workbook is a separate desktop Google Sheets import. Contribution excludes overhead, labor, income tax and unentered costs. All teaching figures are fictional.

WHAT IT HELPS YOU DO

Cash, stock and contribution are different.

In the fictional worked example, $49 cash after purchases plus $10 stock still on hand reconciles to $59 realized contribution. An unsold item remains stock at cost; its purchase is not also deducted from realized contribution.

  • Give each physical item a unique SKU and storage location.
  • Enter acquisition, prep, selling, shipping and return costs.
  • Handle a partial refund, or a full return followed by resale.
  • Separate cash after purchases, stock at cost and realized contribution.

What did the sale
actually leave?

In the fictional camera resale, $90 receipts minus $30 acquisition, $12 actual fees, $8 shipping and $2 packaging leaves $38 contribution for that transaction. The free check lets you enter your own amounts, without a signup.

One completed sale without a refund or return. No platform-rate estimate. Contribution excludes unentered overhead, labor and income tax.

One sale is not the whole history

The same camera had an earlier refunded sale that contributed a $19 loss. The later resale contributes $38, leaving $19 across that item’s complete fictional history. The paid workbook keeps those linked records together.

Cash and unsold stock are different

Across the whole worked example, $49 cash after purchases plus $10 stock still on hand reconciles to $59 realized contribution. That is contribution after entered costs, not complete business net profit.
